Overview
EatRealAgain is a recipe and real food lifestyle site that goes far beyond a typical blog. Built on WordPress with a fully custom theme and plugin, the site features interactive tools designed to make cooking with whole foods easier and more accessible. Users can adjust recipe servings with automatic ingredient recalculation, save favorites to their account, and generate organized shopping lists from multiple recipes at once. The custom "Make It From Scratch" feature links store-bought ingredients to homemade alternatives throughout the site. (This is a passion project created and run by WhimsyBuilt.)
The Challenge
Recipe sites are typically passive — users scroll, maybe print a recipe, and leave. We needed a site that actively helps people meal plan and shop for real, whole-food ingredients, with tools that make cooking from scratch less intimidating.
The Solution
Built a custom WordPress plugin featuring: an interactive Shopping List Generator that compiles ingredients from multiple recipes, automatic serving size adjustment with real-time ingredient recalculation, a Favorites system synced to user accounts, Pantry Staples exclusion to skip items users already have, and "Make It From Scratch" links connecting store-bought ingredients to homemade recipes.
The Result
A fully interactive cooking companion that transforms recipe browsing into meal planning. Registered users can save favorites, build shopping lists across multiple recipes, and access their data from any device. The site turns passive readers into engaged home cooks.
